Buying guide
Choose the access model that matches your study rhythm
CardForge AI has three ways to start. Free is for a first real generation: it includes a one-time welcome grant and a smaller batch limit, so you can test your own material before spending money. A one-time Credit pack is for learners who make decks in bursts, such as before an exam, after a lecture block, or while building a vocabulary list. Pro is for steady weekly use and includes recurring Credits, larger source limits, and additional export formats.
Credits are a usage balance, not a score or a subscription requirement. They pay for AI card generation after you choose a source, set the study goal, and confirm the estimate. A compact vocabulary batch may use only a small part of a balance, while a long professional chapter or a larger card target uses more. The estimate is shown before the request is sent, and the final charge reflects the completed generation rather than an arbitrary monthly allowance. You can review your remaining balance and completed usage in your account before starting another batch.
One-time Credits suit uneven study schedules
Choose a Credit pack when you want to prepare a particular textbook section, language list, medical guideline, or exam topic without starting a recurring plan. Purchased packs do not expire, so you can return when the next study project is ready. They are also useful when you are still learning how much review material you actually want to keep after editing a first batch.
Pro is for a repeatable review workflow
Pro is designed for learners who create and refine cards every week. It adds Credits at the beginning of each paid period and raises the limits for source selection and card output. Period Credits are tied to that billing period, while previously bought one-time or earned Credits remain separate. You can cancel from billing and keep Pro access until the current period ends.
Review before export is part of the product
Payment gives you access to the generation workflow, not an unreviewed deck that must be accepted as-is. Read each card as a learner would, edit a near-miss, remove a weak prompt, and save only the cards you want to keep. Every account can export the saved set as a native .apkg package for Anki. Pro also adds TXT and CSV compatibility exports for workflows that need a table or text file.
Your account keeps cards, not your source files
Saved sets are there so you can reopen, edit, and export your own cards. CardForge does not retain the original uploaded document, complete source text, filename, page selection, or source quotation in a saved set. That keeps the account focused on your finished study material; keep the original PDF, notes, or spreadsheet in your own files.
